Policy

  • Ordinary shops normally closed on Sundays.
  • The owner of a small shop may personally choose to open and work, but ordinary employees should not be routinely required to work.
  • Hospitals, emergency services, critical infrastructure, necessary public transport and pharmacies may operate.
  • Hospitality may operate under separate rules, because Sunday demand is intrinsic to its function.
  • Exceptions should remain narrow enough that Sunday does not become an ordinary commercial day.

Principle

A shared day of rest protects worship, family life and community from total economic colonization.
